I made this star following your design , however , I used 1/2 plastic electrical pipe from home depo to make it 100 percent weather resistant. Thanks for your video and the idea.
What I did was drill out the ends of the plastic pvc pipe makeing sure they were drilled equal on both ends. Then I used zip ties that were tightened after the star was formed. The size of the hole depends on the zip ties being used.I went with the 7.5 inch ones.I formed the star then simply went around and adjusted it with the zip ties untill I was happy with the shape and spaceing etc. Then I used the ip ties to lock the other pipes onto each other , no black tape required.
I also liked your mega tree viedo and it got me thinking about building one of them also , I have a smaller yard so maybe just the 10 foot tree would work out.
Thanks!! My wife has been wanting a star for quite some time now….and now she does. I just finished a 45 inch star using 18 foot of chaser rope light. I plan on building two more for the other two arches on the front of the house.
Thanks again…your video helped out alot.
Next Christmas (2010) I plan to do the 23 foot Christmas tree.
For a 12 foot long rope light this is almost a perfect size! Thanks… made one on the weekend with bolts, instead of tape, and it worked great.
If you want a bigger star, the length of your sticks (L) can be calculated with this:
L in inches = (total rope light in inches x .262). This will be accurate if you place the rope light on top of the sticks. If you wrap it around the outside edge of the sticks you will need to make them an inch or so shorter.
Thank you I am making starburst on poles for the 4th of July and need 6 stars from small to large which could cost 270.00 if I buy from the store your idea Is simple and quick
Excellent idea. Saved me lots of time as I was thinking of making a star out of mitered wood. Your method is so much easier. I ended up using 1/2″ dowels and drilled small holes at the ends. I used cable ties instead of duct tape to fasten the dowels together. I figure this will allow me to store the star more compactly after Christmas. All I would need to do is cut off one cable tie, and all the dowels should fold nicely into a bundle.
Thanks ALOT for the Help . Those stars look so good on your house. Once again I can’t wait to see what new things you have this christmas!!!!!!!
thanks for sharing

Great how to video. I wish I had seen it several weeks ago. Do you think if I painted the sticks black they would last even longer?
